We are constantly striving to look and feel our very best and will do anything to get there. At least that’s how I felt for a long period of time. My teenage years were stressful. I felt pressured to look a certain way. In today’s evolving society, there is no denying that popular culture and media has a significant influence on us. Often times, I found myself picking myself apart and comparing myself to others.
I started dieting which was traumatic for my mind and body. I lost a lot of weight enough to make me extremely underweight and unhealthy. The number on the scale was what I let define me. I was over exercising and under eating. My hormones were out of whack, my body was out of balance. I was trapped in a downward spiral. I began to isolate myself from everyone. My anxiety with food increased and it carried into my social life. I had a severe lack of self-confidence.
It was imperative for me to seek out help and start learning about ways to restore my health. I started to make small changes. I started including more healthy fats and more whole foods into my diet and started working on the whole mind-body aspect to healing. Reading about good health and nutrition allowed me to apply this knowledge into my day-to-day life. I became inspired and a new passion was born. I wanted to learn everything I could to bring my body back into balance. My knowledge increased so much about the female body, about hormones, the importance of having a good amount of body fat, about different foods and how they affect us. I learned ultimately how one could prosper and maintain good health in all aspects. I learned how to heal myself naturally. And that’s exactly what I did.
Fast-forward 4 years later.
I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Health and wellness has become a huge part of my life. It took me over 3 years to balance my hormones, gain weight, and get in a good mental state, it took a lot more than just diet and exercise to get into a healthy state. This is why holistic nutrition interests me so much. We need to look at all aspects of the individual to achieve ultimate vitality. By this I mean we need to look at our mental, physical, spiritual and emotional aspects to well being. There are so many more components to good health than you’d think.

I am sharing my story to give hope to other girls who may be fighting something similar. I wanted to explain where I was and where I am now. These experiences have me wanting to help others on their path to finding lasting good and maintainable health.
I am a graduate with the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, will be graduated as a teacher by April 2019. I have a strong interest in helping those with nutritional, hormonal and mental health issues. It is also a goal of mine to incorporate more health-based teachings into the school systems. This experience has taught me so much about myself and has guided me in so many ways. I hope to help others who have undergone similar struggles and to teach those to prevent issues arising in the first place.

I have an Instagram page called “paleogut” where I share many recipes, travel, and the things I enjoy doing to maintain both good mental and physical health.
